The Southern stereotypes, which my wife and I loved, are right on the money. Pigeon Creek, AL could just have easily been Selmer, Bolivar or Frog Jump, Tennessee. The film makers even portrayed the place where we honor the beloved coon dog.

Besides just basic sin, my hunch is that it has to do with the nature of Christianity and the church. When a family is totally involved in a good bible-believing church, one partner is growing fantastically and other was active but maybe a pretender or has a lust of the world.
